Defending freedom and making miracles

We want to wish all our U.S. CMN Hospitals supporters a safe and happy Independence Day! We don't take our freedom for granted, and it's thanks to the men and women defending our country that it's possible. Many have direct ties to CMN Hospitals, including a man inspired to raise funds while deployed. Here's his story!

While U.S. Army Specialist Kenneth Bass donned a military uniform in Kuwait, his niece Jacey wore a hospital gown in North Carolina. Jacey had cancer.

As she underwent treatment at Duke Children’s Hospital, Bass admired the strength Jacey demonstrated in her battle against leukemia. Bass was also impressed by the care and dedication of the hospital staff.

Though Jacey’s cancer is now in remission and Bass is still deployed, he was inspired to give back.

As a result, Bass conceived the “Big Soldiers for Little Soldiers” program, a unique fundraiser for kids at Duke Children’s Hospital. He along with numerous volunteer Soldiers from his unit in Kuwait have committed to complete one pushup for every $10 raised and run 1 mile for every $500 raised by donors (see the local news coverage he received here). The troops will then fulfill their exercise obligations from the Arifjan base on Saturday, August 18.

Thanks to all the who fight for our freedom, and help make miracles in the process!
